Maryam Alavi, Ph.D.
Dr. Maryam Alavi joined Regener-Eyes® serving as a Biotechnology Manufacturing Manager in 2020. She possesses over ten years of experience in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, cell and tissue culture.
Dr. Alavi received her Ph.D. on nervous system development from University of Nevada, Reno and did her postdoctoral trainings at Harvard Medical School and Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. She found a ternary complex that promotes axon guidance and growth to help people who suffer central nerves system injuries and disorders. She identified targets for modulating growth factor expression during Age-Related Macular Degeneration disease employing the powerful gene-editing system, Crisper, and 3D cell culture. In addition, she led a research to investigate the importance of a transcription factor’s role in the pathogenesis of Chronic Pancreatitis. Dr. Alavi also has engaged in design and development of research in yeast biology and nanotechnology to produce, purify, and encapsulate different proteins. She is the recipient of various reputed awards for her researches, has authored papers in top-tier journals and trained many students and scientist nationally and internationally.
